Overall, not everyone is capable of leading a successful organization, but with the right mindset and work ethic, people can develop their leadership skills. For the most part, great leaders must have a variety of intangible traits, such as determination, perseverance, and resourcefulness. Therefore, it is difficult to pinpoint one specific leadership skill or trait that is essential for leading a global organization, but for the purposes of this discussion, my priority is to establish one trait that all successful leaders must have. Leadership involves influencing a group of individuals to achieve a common objective. Ultimately, leaders must convince their subordinates to believe in the organization’s mission and vision, while encouraging the execution of daily tasks on a regular basis.
Furthermore, in my opinion, a person with elite critical thinking skills is going to be successful in leading an organization. Critical thinking involves problem-solving and the ability to think rationally about what to do or what to believe at an independent level. Once people realize that someone makes few mistakes and consistently solves problems, while making decisions that benefit the organization, they are more likely to listen to that individual. Therefore, those individuals are relied upon and consistently gain more experience dealing with various predicaments and having to critically think while being resourceful in coming up with solutions for particular problems. Unfortunately, this is not an innate skill for all, so people have to work on developing this trait to flourish in the real world. As people advance in their careers, they must meet greater expectations and handle more complex issues. Thus, people must solidify their critical thinking skills by practicing tasks, along with changing the way they think. Overall, managers influence people throughout the organization they work for and how problems are dealt with can have significant ramifications for the organization.
Next, there are some leadership skills or traits that a global leader could do without and still be effective. Moreover, one’s sociability and personality traits are overrated aspects of leadership. As long as one is not unusually rude, obnoxious, or disrespectful, then people may still listen to the individual if he or she is competent in leading the company. Basically, the objective is to achieve the organization’s mission and being the most social person or having specific personality traits is not essential if one can lead at a superior level. At the end of the day, the goal for an organization is to be financially successful, so it can survive and thrive long term. Consequently, it does not matter whether someone is an extrovert, or lacks some social skills, as long as they are intelligent and determined to help the company grow. Also, once a leader understands his purpose and role within the company, and is able to fulfill his duties, then personality traits, such as agreeableness and openness are not that important for a manager to exude, while leading a company. In conclusion, many believe there are a variety of skills necessary for a leader to effectively control the fate of an organization, but as a long as one is an above average critical thinker, and willing to maintain a consistent work ethic, then he should be able to enhance the financial performance of a company and help it grow.
