Business Strategic Planning Services

Without direction and effective leadership, an organization will likely struggle to flourish and grow. Commodious-Pro Consulting can help construct a comprehensive strategic plan that aligns with an organization’s present mission, vision, values, and goals. All significant business decisions, made in alignment with the company’s mission, vision, strategy, philosophies, and values, will allow that organization to thrive long-term and allow it to be better prepared for any circumstance it may have to deal with.

Effective strategic planning establishes goals and objectives that need to be accomplished to help the organization grow and reach its potential in the future, commonly a three-year or five-year plan.  As time passes, this document is amended and updated accordingly to better ensure the business is still on pace to remain financially viable and working towards accomplishing its significant objectives.

Utilizing resources efficiently and effectively, while understanding how to manage the budget is a pivotal aspect of strategic planning.  Before implementing the strategic plan, leaders must have an understanding of the resources the organization possesses and how to best utilize those resources. Strategy analysis consists of analyzing the current state of the organization, defining the future state of the organization, assessing risks, and defining any change strategy plan.

Our Strategic Planning Process, Visualized

The infographic below outlines the strategic planning process we use to guide our clients—from initial assessment through implementation and follow-through.

Why is strategic planning important?

Essentially, the strategic plan is an outline of the future of the organization in the mind of the business leader.  If a business leader is unclear on the organization’s mission, vision, and goals, how can he or she make effective decisions for the betterment of the organization?  Many business decisions pose different challenges and problems. But if the business leader understands what the organization is trying to accomplish, then the decision-making process becomes more manageable and transparent to not only themselves, but others in the organization as well.

Overall, the strategic plan can be shared with stakeholders and helps mediate clear communication because the organization’s purpose becomes apparent to all the parties involved.  Most successful organizations follow and utilize a strategic plan. Business owners, particularly ones just starting out, should comprehend the critical nature of strategic planning and the benefits it can offer them.

What makes strategic planning challenging?

Understandably, executing the strategic plan is a step-by-step process and, with time, the company’s vision should come to fruition.  Prior to that, establishing an appropriate strategic plan takes time and effort.  Even after understanding the mission, vision, values, and philosophies of an organization, creating worthwhile objectives may still be challenging.  For example, a company wants to grow its network and presence by associating itself with like-minded organizations, but does not have a designated staff member available to work on this goal.  Or, in another example, a small technical college may want to implement some new resources for its students, but realizes the budget will have to be reallocated and leadership is not sure this is feasible.

Unfortunately, challenges and problems are consistently present in the business world and intelligent leaders are not afraid to ask for assistance.  Establishing legitimate objectives for an organization is not straightforward as there are multiple variables to take into consideration.

Why are specific strategic plans ineffective?

Sometimes businesses struggle, not from a lack of a strategic plan, but from lacking an effective strategic plan. For a variety of reasons, the strategic plan may not be practical as the objectives are not defined clearly, the objectives do not align with the company’s vision, mission, values, and other philosophies, or not everyone in the organization believes in the viability and validity of the strategic plan. Other factors may also include business leaders who may be ignoring the strategic plan when making certain decisions. In certain situations, the strategic plan is not being evaluated and revised accordingly. These factors may cause a strategic plan to become ineffective, which is why organizations should invest the adequate time creating and maintaining this plan.
